Today we were up nice and early to prepare for a day at Niagara. We were picked up by a coach occupied with students from Glasgow who were also going to be attending the excursion.
From rain to sun, Niagara was amazing! Today Team Canada headed out to Niagara and Niagara on the lake, the weather started off with rain, but ended with Ice creams by the side of the lake.
From our guide, we learned all about the Vineyards in the Greater Toronto Area, and how these are used to produce an 'Ice wine' local to the area. We passed by The Welland Canal which is a ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. There are 8 lochs around this area and are used to bring the water level to the same so ships can come in safely. We learned it can take ships 10 hours to travel between the two lakes!
We also passed through the countryside where we learned that this is the only area of the province where fruit such as cherries, peach, plums and pears can grow due to the temperature and weather.
We had a fantastic time around Niagara, had a ride on the Hornblower which took us all the way up to the falls, safe to say everyone left the boat soaked, but smiling!
" The Niagara boat trip was so much fun. The splashes from the waterfalls, mixed with the very heavy rainstorm made it feel like a very wet and bumpy boat ride. Luckily we had our disposable ponchos on, however it’s safe to say we were all absolutely drenched by the end of it." - Miriam Mells
We then went for lunch at Wendys which was exciting for some as we don't have Wendy's in Scotland!
After lunch we had a look around the Clifton Hills. Clifton Hills was exciting and packed with tourists. Students split off into groups to explore and try out the different activities available, from arcades, to selfie studios to haunted houses!!
We then headed to Niagara on the Lake. We had a look around and headed to get some lovely home made Ice cream. We then had a walk down to the lake to sit together and enjoy the view.
" We took a lovely stroll along to Niagara on the Lake, had a look around this area. This was stunning and very interesting to read about the local area, the history and what’s to offer in this little town. " - Miriam Mells
After arriving back at the hotel, we decided a nice quiet evening was in store, we ordered in some food and all sat together and spent time down time getting to know each other more!!
