Yesterday Kerryn, and I along with 2 students had the opportunity to attend a meeting to discuss the difference in the childcare/education sector with members of staff and students from Centennial College, Tiffany and Erin. . This meeting was really inspiring and so interesting to discuss the differences between Scotland and Canada. Thoroughly enjoyed observing the students from both colleges discuss and compare their experiences and views. What an opportunity for all involved.
"We had a meeting around 3:30pm with Kerryn and Hannah, and several members of staff from the college. This included Erin, two Early Childcare professors, one woman was there who runs the programmes at Centennial and also two other students on the ECE programme. We discussed a potential online exchange programme where students on the Early Childcare programmes at both Borders College and Centennial College, can work together online to complete and discuss assignments, share knowledge and practice, and move forward in their learning together. It was very exciting to be a part of this meeting and all the staff at Centennial were so lovely! We shared pizza together as we discussed the differences in practice and systems within Scotland compared to Canada. The staff were very interested in how things work in Scotland, specifically funding, parent involvement, child-led play, routines of the day etc. I loved being a part of this conversation and it was extremely informative for both me and Cheyanne, to take back these discussions and share with our teams back home. It’s amazing to make these connections here in Canada and share similar practice with knowledgeable practitioners. It’s made me realise how good we have it in Scotland with our education system being so supported, at least a lot more than other countries in the world. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me in terms of where I’m going to work as a practitioner, and learning about other practice in more countries around the world. " - Miriam Mells
